Cosmetic dentistry, or aesthetic dentistry is a term used to describe the dental treatments that improve the aesthetic of our smiles. While you may think that cosmetic dentistry has little purpose other than vanity, this simply isn’t the case. Our smiles are one of the first things people notice about us. When we’re nervous to express how we feel because of a lack of confidence in the way our smile looks it can be awful. But, not only does aesthetic dentistry address our cosmetic needs and improve our smiles, it can also include treatment that is preventative and beneficial for your oral health.

What is included in cosmetic dentistry?
As we mentioned, there’s a lot of treatments that come under the umbrella of cosmetic dentistry, but here are some of the most common procedures.
Composite veneers

Porcelain veneers

-Replacing missing teeth with options such as: dentures, dental implants or a dental bridge.

Composite bonding, also known as resin bonding

– Teeth whitening

When having a smile makeover it’s common to have a combination of treatment, and this varies person to person. For example you may want to opt for composite bonding, but it may be beneficial to opt for teeth whitening and then composite bonding, to give you a perfect shade! The great thing about aesthetic dentistry is that you have so many treatment options ranging from more permanent treatments such as veneers or smaller enhancements like teeth whitening or composite bonding

Why is cosmetic dentistry important?

As we previously said, there’s a lot of thought that cosmetic dentistry is for the vain, or those opting for a new fake look. We’re here to tell you that’s not true. Having a smile makeover can be utterly life changing. Dentists often give patients smile makeovers to restore their teeth to what they used to look like, have helped people gain confidence in their smile after illness and have helped those with major insecurities. While opting for a more ‘fake’ looking smile is becoming more popular, especially with the latest trend in dental tourism and ‘Turkey teeth’, that’s not the aim of many dentists both here in the UK and abroad offering dental tourism.

Cosmetic dentistry is very common for those who want to reclaim their pride and confidence. Those that have had cosmetic dentistry often find a new found commitment to great dental care, something which we believe is fantastic!
