How much does it cost to have a beautiful smile?
June 25, 2022
How much will it cost you to have a beautiful smile? This is a common question for people looking to have a smile makeover. We’re going to cover costs in this blog together so you can understand a little more about the cost of a smile makeover.
Let’s get started with what a smile makeover is…
A smile makeover includes treatment such as porcelain or composite veneers, dental crowns, dental implants (this could include a singular dental implant, all on four dental implants or full mouth dental implants), teeth whitening and composite bonding. Now, that’s an extensive list and we don’t want to overwhelm you as you won’t need all of these treatments, however, when having a smile makeover it’s common to have a combination of treatments to create that perfect smile.
So, how can we break that down for pricing? Estimating the costs of a smile makeover can be challenging without knowing what treatments you do in fact require, but we’ll give it our best go! Remember, when we’re talking about smile makeovers we’re not usually talking about tooth fillings or treatments with the NHS, this is cosmetic dentistry and therefore will be charged as such. It’s worth noting that cosmetic dentistry is not always covered by dental insurance, so if you are planning to use your dental insurance you will need to check with your provider about what may or may not be covered.
Let’s start with veneers.
Veneers are small cap that covers the front of the tooth, you can get porcelain or composite veneers. There are major differences between the two materials such as durability, staining and quality, but one big difference between the two is the cost per veneer. Porcelain veneers typically start from around £700 per veneer, whilst composite veneers start from around £300 per veneer. You may be thinking, well why would I get porcelain veneers if they’re double the price of composite? The answer is simple, porcelain has unmatched strength and durability, however, those requiring small enhancements may happily opt for the composite veneers!
Dental Crowns
Dental Crowns are a covering that goes on top of the tooth that covers all of the surfaces above the gum, Again you can have this in both porcelain or composite and the prices mirror that of veneers. Dental crowns are typically used for those who have extensive damage to the natural tooth, the dental crown can then protect the remaining structure of the tooth. Unfortunately, in the case of many people who travel for dental tourism, they end up having dental crowns as opposed to veneers, which causes unnecessary and irreversible damage.
Missing teeth
A huge part of a smile makeover is replacing missing teeth. You may want to opt to have a removable option such as a denture to replace missing teeth, or you may want a fixed option such as dental implants for a more permanent result. You can expect to pay anywhere from £500 to have a denture made for you, and this will depend on the number of teeth required for the denture. You can seek dentures to be made for you under the NHS for around 60% of the cost, but these are typically not as good as the ones that can be provided privately.
Dental implants are growing in popularity and this is because of their natural appearance and low-maintenance nature. Dental implants in the UK start from around £2000 per tooth. However if the UK dental implant price is out of budget, and you are willing to travel you can have treatment as part of dental tourism. We do recommend that anyone opting for dental tourism visits a dental practice in the UK that provides tourism links, as this ensures you are cared for post-treatment and have reputable care. Often opting for tourism reduces the cost by around 40%.
Teeth Whitening Treatment
Teeth whitening is an extremely common procedure that many people each year opt for. It boasts fantastic results and does not damage your teeth in the process. So, how much will whitening cost you with a dentist? Dentist-certified whitening will usually cost anywhere from £350. The results of whitening can last up to around a year, and after this time you may only need a booster costing around £50. If you’re after just whitening, you can usually visit your existing dental practice, as this is a common treatment offered by most dentists.
Composite bonding Treatment.
Composite bonding is typically used to correct the edges of teeth and is less invasive than veneers. Composite bonding can correct gaps in teeth, the length of teeth or even any chips. Usually paired with whitening it can make a huge impact on someone’s smile. The cost per tooth is usually anywhere from £150. In some cases, your dentist may give you a discount if you’re doing several teeth.
Wow, what a list that was. Now, we know this can sound overwhelming, but as we mentioned it’s important to visit a dentist to discuss your needs, not only will that give you a better idea of what treatments you may need, but it may even answer your financial questions.
